The European Commission public consultation on single-member limited liability companies closed on 15 September 2013. It took place in the context of the 2012 EU Company Law Action Plan as well as the repeated attempts by the European Commission to create a European legal form for SMEs and to deregulate the small company sector.

This consultation was designed to gather information on the need for European action to specifically address companies with limited liability and a single owner. As with many other European directives which potentially could harmonize company law or create new company legal forms, a concern here is that specific actions might put pressure on or make it easier for companies to avoid national arrangements for worker involvement. The Commission generally takes a few months after the close of a consultation period to issue a feedback statement.
